Did you know???

Literacy rates are declining within the American population amongst both students and adults.

More than 50% of the population reads below a sixth-grade level.

More than 20% of the population is illiterate, reading below a fifth-grade level.

What this means is that 50% of the American population cannot understand complex subjects and do not conduct deeper analyzation into world.

Half of the population's ability to reason, understand, and perceive is below that of a middle schooler.

Literacy is more than just the ability to read or write.

Literacy is about being able to comprehend the meanings behind what you read. It is about understanding context clues and nuance. The ability to interpret what we read, hear, and observe allows us to form thoughts independent from outside influence. It allows us to think critically about what we consume and the world around us.

While in conversation, have you noticed the growing divide between those having complex thoughts about society and those parroting the extreme perspectives of outrage from clickbait content? I sure have.

Modern day literacy incompetence is intentional, strategic class division.

Average Americans are glued to screens. Scrolling for quick dopamine hits in an algorithm designed to keep you stuck. Arguing in comment sections designed to keep you engaged. Escaping to a fantasy world in video games because it is the closet many will get to escaping a life of capitalistic enslavement. Living vicariously through fictional characters on a TV show or movie that are more alive we are.

Sure, books also provide an escape, but they remove you from the algorithm. They exercise your brain. Books allow your mind to expand which could inspire you to become greater.

Meanwhile, those in places of privilege do not participate in these brain rotting habits. They are working to secure their positions and power within the world, and they are focused on ensuring their children do not fall into the same traps the average American does. Their children are receiving educations focused on art, philosophy, world culture, and finances. They are being set up for success while many of us set ourselves and our children up for mediocre lives and failure.

Average Americans are busy complaining about the power millionaires and billionaires have while participating in the dumbification of society. We are allowing ourselves to become a society of enraged reaction machines, targeting each other than being able to read the room, find the meaning under the surface, and respond with intelligent thought. Understanding nuance and having more balanced perspectives now makes you a target for people that don't even realize they are in a herd being led straight to a slaughterhouse. It is all by design to keep us eating each other, unable to organize meaningful resistance or change on much larger scales.

Literacy is more important now than ever.

Books are being banned.

One of the easiest ways you can resist is to read.

Grow your attention span.

Expand your perspectives.

Read physical books, magazines, and newsletters whenever you can. It reduces your screen time. It takes you out of the algorithm where you can have clear start and stop times—a chapter or a long form article for example. Exercise your brain instead of rotting it.

Fiction books are great for working on our imagination, but non-fiction is important. I'm not talking about the self-help and spiritual knowledge books with the same regurgitated material over and over, so the authors make a profit grifting. Some of the greatest wisdom is found in the most mundane places, not a book promising you the answers to enlightment, purpose, and happiness.

Memoirs are some of my favorite books to read as they help me gain insight into the thoughts and lives of other humans. I get to experience things outside of myself through the lens of someone else. This creates deeper levels of empathy, discernment, and increases my understanding of myself and how I perceive the world.

It is important to tell our stories.

Oppressive systems rely on controlling the narrative. I am sure you've heard the phrase, "History is written by the victors." Exploitation continues to happen when the voices of victims are silenced—just ask any marginalized group. I am not saying to speak from a place of victimhood and powerlessness, but to speak from a place of taking back power over our own story. Acknowledgement of what happened, how it impacted us, and how we are rising from the ashes like the phoenix we were always destined to become.

We have the ability to write something new for ourselves if we are brave enough to pick up the pen. Words are mightier than any sword. Those that need control over others to maintain power know that. It is why they silence us, ban books, and want us unable to listen to each other speak.

Introducing Bookmarks for Humans in Bloom

My Humans in Bloom podcast is all about storytelling. It is inspired by my own story of working to take back my life through Electric Honeypot Project and the novel I am currently working on.

I have been focusing heavily on trying to grow my social channels through tarot and oracle cards, but I realize that is not want I want my legacy to be. I have been focusing too much on numbers and hoping to support myself that way when that's not what my soul feels called to do. I love reading for people, but I love reading books and writing so much more. I want to have conversations with people to learn about who they are instead of reading cards to know based on my own perception.

It has been challenging to grow a following because the content I prefer to produce is not shortform. It explores controversial topics from deeper perspectives based on my personal experiences and literacy. People skip over entirely, react without listening, or listen to react. I have been building a podcast and writing a novel for an audience that barely exists right now. (Thank you to those that do take the time to listen, like, comment, and support. I am grateful as you have helped me stay hopeful about my vision while it feels like I am climbing an impossible mountain sometimes.)

These bookmarks are intended to help me reach my target audience in a meaningful, personal way while encouraging people to read more books.

Each bookmark is made by hand by me with so much love. Why music festivals?

I wouldn't be who I am today without the experiences and community found within the music festival scene—both good and bad. Other deep thinkers and feelers with open minds and hearts within the music festival community are my target audience for my novel.

My book is a fictional memoir (or is it?) inspired by my personal healing and self-discovery journey through aligned encounters, psychedelic experiences, synchronicities, fake friendships, substance abuse, deep family betrayal, murder, and, of course, music festivals. It is being written in a way where it is up to the reader to decide if the narrator is reliable or not. Is it a story of learning to navigate and harness ancient shamanic magic in a world that doesn't understand or a distorted reality through the lens of schizophrenia?

It is my intention that this book sparks curiosity and magic within the hearts and minds of those that read it. I hope the way I intertwine my personal wisdom with my storytelling helps someone reach breakthroughs of their own. Most of all, I hope it teaches people to love and trust themselves regardless of the past or how others may respond. Fear and self-doubt are the chains that shackle us to hell on earth.

Your past does not define you, but there is power within the pain if you choose it.
